Does the Twilight Trails GO Pass give a trading bonus, and how is it different from Friendship Friday?

🍬4 min read · Updated

Short answer: yes. Reaching Rank 1 on the free track of the monthly GO Pass unlocks a standing trade bonus — one extra Candy from every trade, plus a guaranteed Candy XL for trainers level 31+ — active all week, every week, for as long as that pass runs. Friendship Friday is a separate, Friday-only bonus limited to in-person trades, with its own (stronger) set of perks. It's easy to mix the two up since both involve Candy XL from trading.

Two trade bonuses have been live side by side during the Twilight Trails season: one tied to the monthly GO Pass, one tied to the weekly Friendship Friday Daily Discovery. They're unrelated systems that happen to overlap.

The GO Pass trade bonus

Both the August 2026 and October 2026 GO Passes have carried the same Rank 1 reward on the free (non-Deluxe) track:

You don't need to buy GO Pass Deluxe to get this — it sits on the free track, at the very first rank. You do need to earn enough rank points to reach Rank 1, which happens quickly from the pass's own daily and weekly tasks (typically within the first day or two of the pass going live). Once you've hit Rank 1, the bonus applies to every qualifying trade for the rest of that pass — you don't need to do anything else to keep it active.

This exact Rank 1 trade bonus has repeated on at least two consecutive monthly passes, but Niantic sets each GO Pass's rewards fresh — check the current pass screen in-game rather than assuming it'll be there next month.

Friendship Friday's trade bonus

Friendship Friday only runs on Fridays and only counts in-person trades. When it's active, it gives:

See the full Friendship Friday breakdown for how to use it.

How they're different

GO Pass trade bonus Friendship Friday
When active All week, every day, for the pass's duration Fridays only
Trade type Not stated as restricted In-person only (confirmed)
Extra Candy +1 per trade Not offered
Candy XL (level 31+) +1 guaranteed +2 guaranteed
Special Trades No change Up to +2/day
Stardust No change 20% off
Cost Free track, no purchase needed Free, no purchase needed

The biggest practical gap: Friendship Friday's own event page explicitly says its bonuses are in-person only, while the GO Pass pages describe the Candy bonus as applying to "trading Pokémon" with no in-person qualifier. No source confirms whether the GO Pass Candy bonus also reaches Remote Trades between Forever Friends — treat that as unconfirmed until Niantic states it directly or you test it yourself.

Do the two bonuses stack?

Unconfirmed. Nothing from Niantic says whether the GO Pass's Candy XL bonus and Friendship Friday's Candy XL bonus combine into three guaranteed Candy XL on the same Friday trade, or whether only one applies. If you want to find out, the trade confirmation screen should list every bonus that's actually being applied — check it before confirming a Friday trade during a pass with this reward active.

FAQ

Do I need GO Pass Deluxe to get the trade Candy bonus? No — both the extra Candy and the Candy XL at level 31+ are on the free track, unlocked at Rank 1.

How fast can I reach Rank 1? Within the first day or two, just from the pass's own daily tasks — it's one of the earliest ranks on the track.

Does the GO Pass trade bonus work on Remote Trades? Not confirmed either way — unlike Friendship Friday, the GO Pass descriptions don't explicitly restrict it to in-person trades, but no source confirms it covers remote trades either.

Is this bonus guaranteed to come back next month? No — each GO Pass has its own reward list. It has shown up at Rank 1 on more than one recent pass, but always double-check the current month's pass in-game.
